The Episcopal Church General Convention has passed various resolutions calling for a faith-based response to violence against women and girls. In 2024, the church resolved:
That Episcopal institutions and individuals participate in opportunities for activism and
advocacy, including but not limited to, engaging with the Office of Government
Relations (OGR) on issues of gender justice and gender-based violence and taking
action on action alerts through OGR’s Episcopal Public Policy Network, as well as
through the Episcopal Church’s work at the UN and UNCSW and by participating in the
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence sponsored by United Nations Women and encouraging use of Episcopal Relief and Development’s 16 Days of
Activism Toolkit. Tool kit below available for download.
Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe writes, “In 2022 our General Convention called for a designation of the Sunday closest to Nov. 25 as Break the Silence Sunday, in solidarity with the global cry against gender-based violence highlighted each year by the United Nations.”
Break the Silence Sunday in 2025 is November 30.
The Episcopal Diocese of New York Task Force on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault prepared a Tool Kit to help congregations and other ministry settings observe Break the Silence Sunday throughout The Episcopal Church.
